Northland Sheep Dairy is a small, partially horse-powered farm in upstate New York. Using Holistic Management® decision making, we aim for a higher standard of sustainability than current USDA-controlled organic certification. We practice seasonal dairying and lamb production on pasture managed intensively to build soil organic matter, sequester atmospheric carbon, and provide high biodiversity and high nutrition forage.
We offer several aged sheep milk cheeses, lamb, yarns, sheepskins and knitwear from animals fed no grain because they are genetically selected to thrive on pasture and occasional hay. Our mostly year-round inventory includes several artisan quality cheeses, colored and natural yarns and Icelandic spinning wool, and sheepskins. These items are available in the Ithaca Farmers Market and other local outlets, nationally by mail order and in selected stores and restaurants, and at the farm by appointment. Lamb is available locally mostly in late fall. The farm is open for inspection to customers. Please visit our website for more information on how we farm.
